The City's Water Department is dedicated to providing safe, clean drinking water to the residents of St Johns. This department is responsible for installing new water lines as well as repairing and maintaining our existing water system.
The City's five (5) wells were drilled from 1933 through 1965. Each of the five wells have been rejuvenated within the last two (2) years. The City pumps approximately one million gallons of water per day. The City's SCADA system has been extensively updated. The SCADA system monitors the wells 24/7 every day.
Our water is regulated by the State and has both phosphate and chlorine added to it. Testing for chlorine levels are done twice a day and once a day for phosphate. The City tests for bacteria, per the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Standards, at fourteen (14) different locations throughout the City each month.
